Participation & Fundraising

There are a number of ways for families to participate in the St. Paul's community. Not only does this help build a sense of community, it helps us keep tuition in check! At St. Paul's, two-parent families are required to give forty (40) hours of service to the school/parish each year. Single-parent families are required to give twenty (20) hours of service.

Information about any of these activities may be found at the Parents Group meetings, which occur the third Thursday of each month during the school year at 7:00 pm in the Parish Center.

There are several fundraisers a year benefitting St. Paul's, including:

World's Finest Chocolate Candy

This fundraiser takes place in January/February every year. Students are invited to sell a variety of chocolate candy including World's Finest Almond Bars, Mint Meltaways and sometimes a variety pack that contains 15 Almond Bars, 10 Crisp Bars, 10 Toffee Bars and 5 Milk Chocolate Bars. Parents are required to complete a permission/order form for each child participating in the fundraiser. Orders are placed by the number of cases. Opened cases of chocolate may not be returned. Chocolate bars are sold for $1.00 each, a total of $40 per case. Mint Meltaways sell for $2.00 per box. There are 20 boxes of Meltaways in a case. All cases of chocolates sell for $40. Each family earns 50% of its total sales toward the parent financial agreement. In other words, half of the profits go to World's Finest Chocolate Candy Co., and the remaining profits go to St. Paul's School.

To encourage the sale of candy, and greater profits for the school, many exciting prizes are awarded. Some of these prizes have included grab gift bags and cash. Special prizes for 7th and 8th grade students have included a limousine ride to lunch on a school day. Top-selling classes have won trips to the Giants baseball game and the San Francisco Zoo.

QSP/Readers Digest Gift and Wrapping Paper Program

This popular annual fall fundraiser is comprised of a wide array of wrapping paper and miscellaneous gifts items for sale, many of which are suitable for Christmas. Catalogs and order forms are provided. Magazine subscriptions are also sold. Proceeds of this fundraiser go to St. Paul’s School. In addition, a percentage of your family’s total sales are counted toward your parent financial agreement. The breakdown is 40% on magazines and 45% on all other items sold. QSP/Readers Digest awards prizes to students in this program. St. Paul’s School may also receive 40% profit from all items purchased on-line throughout the year! You can shop at www.qspstore.com and use the St. Paul’s account number: 710-313136.

Walkathon

This annual event is held at a San Francisco high-school track on a Sunday afternoon, usually in the fall or spring. Students receive pledges for the amount of laps they walk around the quarter-mile track within a given time-frame. Flat fees may also be pledged. It’s a great opportunity for all students and families to support the school, and have fun at the same time! Prizes are awarded to individuals and classes who walk the most laps and who solicit the most pledges. In addition, 80% of the money your family raises will count toward your parent financial agreement. All proceeds are directed to the school and parish. Service hours may be earned toward your parent service agreement, by volunteering to help with the Walkathon.

The St. Paul’s Annual Dinner Dance

This annual formal dinner-dance and auction is held one evening, usually in the late fall, at the Irish Cultural Center. School parents/guardians are invited to participate both by attending the event, soliciting donations for the auction, or working on various committees. For more information, or to purchase tickets, contact the St. Paul’s Rectory at (415) 648-7538.

Family Bingo Night

The St. Paul’s Parent Group sponsors this evening of family fun held on a Saturday night in the Parish Center. The whole family, and friends, can experience the thrill of shouting BINGO! and winning prizes. Raffle prizes, soft drinks and free ice cream sundaes are included. Gift baskets, donated by individual classes, are silent auctioned at the event. Service hours may be earned toward your parent service agreement, by volunteering to help with Family Bingo Night. This event is not structured as a fundraiser. However, any proceeds go directly to the school to enrich education programs for our students.
